2月3日 節分。桃太郎の家来は、なぜサル、トリ、イヌ？


節分には、豆を投げて鬼を退治します。

鬼退治の桃太郎の話は、エト（干支）から生まれました。

昔、家の北東は鬼門（きもん）といって、厄除（やくよ）けに桃を植えました。

桃は不老長寿の薬、鬼を払う厄よけでした。（＜『山海経』、せんがいきょう）

鬼門には、牛の角と虎のパンツをはいた鬼が控えています。

なぜ、牛のツノと虎のブリーフかというと、
    鬼門はウシ・トラの方角
にあたるからです。

桃太郎（Peach boy）がサル、トリ、イヌを家来にしたのは、
    かれらが鬼門（demon's gate）の反対の方角
に住んでいるいるからでした。

桃太郎に退治された鬼は何も悪いことをしていなかったようです。
鉄棒をもっていることでわかるように、
自分のところ（吉備国、岡山）で鉄がとれるので、
それをねらわれてほろぼさたようです。

鬼とは「隠（おん）」が転じて、「おに」ないなったとも言われています。

As you can see,  the demon hold a steel bar,  iron can be taken at his place, so he was targeted and destroyed.

The demon Oni seems to mean "hidden, can not be seen".
