Toyoda Sakichi was a famous Japanese inventor and industrialist.
He was born in 1867 in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan.
As a young man, he saw women working very hard at hand looms and wanted to help them.
In 1890, he invented a wooden hand loom that was much easier and faster to use.
Later, in 1896, he developed Japan's first power loom driven by an engine.
He invented an automatic loom that stopped immediately if a thread broke, preventing defective cloth.
This idea of machines stopping automatically when a problem occurs became known as Jidoka, a core concept of modern manufacturing.
A famous British textile company bought the patent for his automatic loom in 1929.
His son used the funds from this patent to establish Toyota Motor Corporation.
Toyoda Sakichi is widely remembered as the "King of Japanese Inventors."
